HWPS Slaughterhouse - Design & Prep

First off - HWPS = Herschel Weisenheimer's "P" Meat Slaughterhouse...The "P" standing for pig, penguin and panda (!) This all started with the purchase of 4, and now 6, HWPS delivery trucks. Needed something for them to deliver door to door like the Schwann's truck.

Design is inspired by the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC - with rooftop parking for the trucks...

Livestock pulls up on the ground floor via the loading bays and back doors in the alley behind Northlake Tavern Pizza. They are "processed" and then packaged and shipped locally by truck. Shipments also go to national/international destinations by refer train cars and air courier.
Additional livestock comes in to the plant via livestock freight cars.

An added challenge is that this location on the layout also needs a connection to what will be detachable interchange tracks. Full trains will come in through this end of the layout. Once loads are dropped off, new cars will be picked up and the new train will exit through an interchange on the other end of the layout. To do this, just needed to make sure the interchange track can be connected - and that there is an opening in the south wall of the slaughterhouse for trains to continue on through...

First steps, in order in the photos:
  1. Blueprint of the building
  2. Roughing out the ramp size
  3. Track link test fit
  4. Subfoundation build
  5. Subfoundation paint
  6. Foundation

Next time : Constructing HWPS
