After letting the last version of the Port Pacfic FDHQ sit a while I realized that there wasn't enough space for crew quarters - and that I wanted one more apparatus bay. Additionally, the previous 2nd floor was too oversized and made the building look overscaled. To change it up, I first took off the existing 2nd floor. Then I added an apparatus bay on the end for a 7th fire engine.
In reconstructing the building to be 3 floors instead of two, I also added operating doors. The two doors, built to look like 6, slide up and down in U shaped channels built onto the front of the building. Additionally, I've built the 3rd floor so that you can see through both sets of windows when the door is in the UP position. Eventually I'll build a detailed interior visible through the front windows.
Housed inside the building:
- Engine #5 (antique used for parades but operational for urgent reserve needs)
- Engine #51
- Aerial Platform #51
- Engine #67
- Ladder #67
- Engine #2
- Snorkel #2
- Tanker #1121
- Mobile Command Center #1
- Department Chief
- Chopper #1 parked on the roof.
Once the new floors were added I painted the whole thing gray with red trim on the windows. Red and white for the garage doors. A new, darker blue was used for the roof, with overscale ladders connecting the roof levels for a running water kind of vibe.
All that is left to do is some signage, the 3rd floor interior, and matching decal work and light bars for the rigs.
Next time: Prep work for the HWPS slaughterhouse, Shell refinery and Onceler's Thneed Factory
