Very busy spring and summer. Just getting back to the RR now while on a 7 week sabbatical from work :) Doing just a minor reset on the railroad with the following changes:
After adding the tunnel I then completed most of the seawall on the south side of Metallikhamish Bay. The seawall was built with parts of an O scale road crossing, parts of an O scale coal tower and some styrene stone wall pieces. I left some of it uncompleted where the abutments for both of the drawbridges will be. That detail will be filled in when I build and install the bridges.
Next time: The Bar Block
1. Metallikahmish Bay will now be built on the hilltop on the north side of the harbor in N scale.
2. The highway bridge up the hill to Metallikahmish Bay has been dropped from the plan. The bridge would have been too overwhelming for the layout and no longer synchs up with the smaller buildings/vehicles that will be on the ridge top.
3. The plans for an oil refinery have now been changed to a grain terminal.
In today's construction work I installed a tunnel portal in the ridge on the north end of the layout. Photos to follow, but in general I first:
1. Placed the portal to my liking
2. Built the cliff face up on both sides and on top of the portal
3. Painted and landscaped the cliff face
4. Painted and weathered the tunnel portal
